The Kano state government has identified 3,234 workers in the state public service who were found ineligible for employment.
The ineligible workers include a 13-year-old girl, primary and secondary students, and members of the National Youth Service Corps, who were recruited during the immediate past administration.
Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf suspended the salaries of about 12,566 public servants due to irregularities in their employment. A committee, consisting of 22 high-powered members, was formed to investigate the situation and make recommendations.
The committee's findings revealed that the previous administration overlooked the financial implications and employed individuals without proper screening, including those with fake certificates.
The government is set to offer employment to 9,332 individuals with the necessary qualifications, and appropriate sanctions will be applied to those responsible for the irregularities in accordance with civil service rules.
