The announcement was made on Tuesday in a tweet from the Nigerian Presidency.
The government of Ghana (FG) intends to start a new cash transfer program for 15 million households by October, according to plans revealed by Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
She revealed this in September while speaking with Arise TV for a Progress Report on Nigeria's attendance in the 78th General Assembly session.
Edu revealed this in response to inquiries on the FG's attendance at UNGA 78 and what it meant for Nigerians.
The expansion of the national safety net program, which would put money in the pockets of more than 15 million households in Nigeria, will be announced very soon, she added. "We had meetings with the World Bank," she said.
"These are real resources that people may employ to launch enterprises and enhance their quality of life. This will occur in October next year.
Edu had additionally stated that in order to lower the degree of poverty among households throughout Nigeria, the FG was prepared to expand its social safety net program.
She continued by saying that the project is part of the FG's strategic endeavor to strengthen families and individuals across the nation.
Edu declared, "We'll launch an enlarged and upgraded social safety net program targeted to cover many households in Nigeria.
"These funds are intended to help individuals and businesses get off the ground."
She added that the national social registry will be verified in cooperation with state and local governments and the federal government.
According to the Minister, it is intended to guarantee that persons on the existing social register remain in that socioeconomic category.
