The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, security organizations, media, voters, and other Imo citizens were also urged to thwart any attempts that would taint the election.
APGA's Sir Tony Ejiogu, who is running for governor, made the call while visiting the town of Obube in the state's Owerri North council over the weekend.
He assured that his administration would run an inclusive government if elected and would give priority to policies and programmes that would guarantee overall development of the state.
The APGA candidate also urged the Obube people especially their leaders to ensure their people participate actively in the coming election, while assuring them that their votes would count in the coming election.
He said, “the discussion to create Imo started in this community (Ngwoma), the late traditional ruler, Eze A.I Onukogu was the Chairman of that Committee, he played a vital role in the creation of Imo State.
I thought it wise to come back to here and pay homage to you, the founding fathers of our state and as well seek the land’s blessings in my determination to rebuild Imo state for developmental strides”.
“The present Imo is not what the founding fathers had hoped for, hence my desire to right the wrongs.”
“There is a wind of change blowing across this nation. Our people are desirous to sign a new social contract, hence everybody should be bold enough to come out on November 11th to vote and secure their votes.
“I equally call on our security agencies to ensure the safety of all, we want to bring about good governance,” he added.
Responding, the community leaders expressed their confidence on Ejiogu’s capacity of Ejiogu to deliver good governance if elected, adding that they were pleased with his courage to join the race.
Chief Samuel Akujiuobi who spoke on their behalf said the community has lacked government presence and has suffered socioeconomic challenges over time.
He claimed that despite its strategic and historic importance, "our community has suffered gross neglect by the government, evidenced by the lack of any significant public infrastructure in our entire community."
We are hoping for your success since we know you have our people's best interests at heart. As governor, we need someone with a progressive mindset like you to provide a climate that will help businesses flourish and the state advance.
