The NSCDC detains a 65-year-old man for allegedly starving and chaining his wife.
The arrest of a 65-year-old man named Mohammed Baburam, who is accused of subjecting his wife to a year-long period of confinement, malnourishment, and physical restraint, has been confirmed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe. The incident took place in the town of Potiskum.


The disclosure was made by DSC Bala Garba, the spokesperson for the Command, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Friday.


According to a report by NAN, photographs depicting a 40-year-old woman who is a mother of four, restrained by chains, gained widespread attention inside the state. This led to a call from local residents and civil society organizations for the speedy apprehension of Baburam.


According to Garba, the arrest of Baburam took place on Wednesday subsequent to receiving a tip-off from the vicinity of Dabo-Aliyu Stadium, where both the suspect and the victim are known to dwell.


The initial inquiry indicated that the individual in question provides sustenance to his spouse on a daily basis, but restricts it to a single meal per day.


According to the individual in question, they restrained their spouse due to her mental health conditions.


According to the spokesperson, the commanding officer had enlisted the assistance of forensic experts and a medical professional in order to determine the health condition of the individual involved


According to his statement, the individual in question will undergo legal proceedings subsequent to a thorough investigation.
