The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, filed a petition with the tribunal in order to contest the re-election of Abiodun on the grounds of alleged corrupt activities and failure to adhere to the terms of the Electoral Act. The suit further said that the governor failed to secure a majority vote required by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in order to be declared the winner.
In a recent ruling on September 30th, the tribunal rendered an extensive 11-hour judgment. Within this judgment, it was determined that the petitioner was unable to sufficiently establish their case with a high degree of certainty. Consequently, the tribunal proceeded to invalidate and dismiss the petition.
The court further determined that Abiodun possessed the necessary qualifications to serve as the candidate representing his political party, and therefore, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared him as the victor of the election.
