Students at KASU threaten to boycott examinations in protest of the five-month power outage.
A group of students from Kaduna State University (KASU), namely the Kafanchan campus, recently organized a nonviolent demonstration to express their dissatisfaction with the prolonged absence of electricity on their campus for a period of five months. In an attempt to draw attention to their concerns, the students have issued a warning that they may refuse to participate in the upcoming second semester tests unless the electricity supply is promptly reinstated.


The Kafanchan campus has had a prolonged period of power outage lasting for more than five months. This situation has arisen as a result of the disconnection of the power supply, which was initiated due to the university's failure to address outstanding electricity bills.


Eli Sajo, the Vice President 1 of Kaduna State Student's Union (KADSSU), KASU chapter, expressed his concerns and organized a protest on behalf of the collective leadership of multiple students' unions. He emphasized that the extended period of power outage was significantly impeding their ability to adequately prepare for their upcoming examinations.


We have composed numerous correspondences, although they have yielded no desired outcome. The individual asserted that it is not possible to engage in the process of acquiring knowledge and skills in an environment that does not provide favorable conditions.


According to Sajo, the blackout is also presenting a safety concern, as students have experienced incidents of theft and vandalism perpetrated by individuals of questionable character. Jim


The student leader, in contrast, acknowledged the endeavors of the school's administration in offering alternative means of power provision, which he characterized as lacking long-term viability.


The individual urged the school administration to promptly attend to the matter prior to the commencement of the examinations on October 30th, warning of a potential student boycott.


In his address to the students, Prof. Ibrahim Sodangi, the Provost of Kafanchan campus, acknowledged the concerns raised by the students and provided assurance that the management is actively engaged in resolving the matter, utilizing all available resources and authority.


As per his statement, a comprehensive compilation of the institution's requirements was presented to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, who expressed his dedication to addressing them.


The speaker commended the students for their nonviolent behavior throughout the protest and encouraged them to create additional opportunities for communication in order to effectively address their concerns for the benefit of the entire community.


According to a report by NAN, the students engaged in protests while displaying banners bearing diverse inscriptions, including: 'Restore electricity supply to KASU', 'Examinations contingent upon availability of electricity', and 'Illuminate Kafanchan Campus and reinstate our access to electricity'.
