Six gas stations and a gas plant in Delta are closed by NMDPRA.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), namely the Warri Zonal Office, has taken action to close down six retail outlets and an unauthorized gas refilling station in Delta state due to their involvement in fraudulent activities.

On Tuesday, Mr. Goziem Chukwurah, the Head of Operations in the Warri office of the NMDPRA, led a surveillance team from the regulatory authority to carry out the closure of the stations located in the Uvwie and Udu Local Government Areas of the state.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the filling stations were closed due to violations related to under-dispensing of fuel and the absence of valid operational permits.

According to NAN, the aforementioned defaulters in Orhuwhorun town, Udu Local Government Area, are Bwede filling station, Pius A Idoghor Oil and Gas, Eshegbe Oil, Fetega Oil, and Sole Energy Enterprise.

There are two Falcon Bay Oil establishments in the Uvwie Local Government Area, namely one situated at PTI junction and another located on the DSC highway.

Chukwurah, on behalf of Mr. Victor Ohwodiasa, the NMDPRA Coordinator in Delta, addressed the press at the conclusion of the event.

According to Ohwodiasa, the objective of the exercise is to guarantee that consumers receive adequate value in exchange for their monetary expenditure.

The majority of the petrol stations we inspected were found to be operating without valid licenses. Consequently, we were compelled to close these establishments and summon the proprietors to our office for further action.

The individual stated that a total of six petrol retail shops and an unauthorized gas plant were closed due to a variety of infractions, including the absence of proper operational licenses and the act of under-dispensing petroleum goods to consumers.

Ohwodiasa emphasized the importance for consumers to promptly report any instances of unethical conduct by petroleum marketers to the relevant regulatory authority, in order for appropriate measures to be taken.

The coordinator provided assurance that the exercise will be ongoing until the marketers take appropriate action.

Ohwodiasa issued a cautionary statement to marketers, urging them to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities in order to prevent the closure of their establishments.

In the interim, an employee of Falcon Bay Oil was caught for contravening the seal imposed by the National Marine Pollution Damage Prevention and Response Act (NMDPRA) on their dispensing apparatus.

Subsequently, the suspect was transferred to the competent authority for the purpose of legal proceedings.
