Senate Leader Bamidele calls on the NLC and TUC to call off their strike.Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, has made a plea to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to refrain from proceeding with their intended indefinite strike, emphasizing the need of prioritizing the national interest.

The senator issued an appeal in a statement commemorating the celebration of independence, which was disseminated by his Media and Public Affairs Directorate in Abuja.

Bamidele extended his congratulations to Nigerians from all socio-economic and political backgrounds on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Nigeria's attainment of independence as a nation.

Bamidele observed that the Federal Government and its pertinent departments are covertly engaged in formulating feasible alternatives in order to address the demands put out by the organized labor.

According to his statement, Nigeria has maintained its status as a resilient, unified, and indivisible nation since October 1, 1960. Despite facing internal difficulties, Nigeria continues to exhibit robust leadership not just within the West African region but also across the whole African continent.

Bamidele expressed confidence to both domestic and international Nigerians that the federation will overcome many obstacles hindering its advancement under the leadership of the new government. He highlighted a range of reform measures implemented by the new administration that are aimed at promoting growth.

The head of the Senate thus called upon Nigerians to collaborate with the newly formed government in order to guide the federation towards progress. This entails implementing crucial changes that would generate boundless prospects for the country's large youth population and restore international trust.

The speaker made a direct plea to the leadership of the NLC and TUC, urging them to refrain from initiating an indefinite strike in the best interest of the nation. He argued that such a course of action would exacerbate the suffering of Nigerians, particularly when the new government is actively striving to address their issues and grievances.

In the current context, it is recommended that labor unions prioritize engaging in conversation rather than pursuing alternatives that may exacerbate the hardships experienced by the populace.

During such a period, it is expected that all sides engage in negotiations with unwavering confidence in the newly established government.

According to his statement, it was suggested that the economic reforms implemented by President Tinubu would soon result in favorable consequences, leading to a significant improvement in the quality of life for Nigerians, regardless of their socio-economic background.

The leader of the senate expressed admiration for the founding fathers of Nigeria, acknowledging their unwavering patriotism, remarkable nationalism, extraordinary sacrifices, and determined efforts that ultimately led to the country's independence.

As citizens of Nigeria, we bear the responsibility of ensuring that the efforts and sacrifices made by our national heroes are never rendered futile. I extend my felicitations to the Nigerian populace on the occasion of our nation's 63rd anniversary. Nigeria stands as a resilient, cohesive, and indivisible entity, eagerly anticipated by the international community to assume its proper position within the community of countries," he expressed.

Bamidele urged Nigerians to fully utilize the potential embedded in their camaraderie, voluntary unity, and shared aspiration to advance the ongoing journey and enhance Nigeria as a nation to be proudly passed on to future generations.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, provided reassurance to all stakeholders that the 10th Senate would persist in enacting significant legislation for the collective benefit of Nigeria.
