Policeman Who Murdered A Lagos Lawyer Is Given A Death Sentence
A gun-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Drambi Vandi, was sentenced by Justice Ibironke Harrison of a Lagos State High Court to death by hanging for the murder of a pregnant lawyer living in Lagos, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem.

The 41-year-old pregnant lawyer was allegedly shot to death at the Ajah under-bridge checkpoint on December 25, 2022, and the Lagos State government had charged Vandi with the crime before the court.

The police officer was suspended after the event drew criticism, particularly on social media.

The defendant was first accused of murder, but the court ultimately judged him guilty of manslaughter due to his lack of malice.

The prosecution brought eleven witnesses, including eight police officers, and presented 27 exhibits as evidence during the trial, while the convict only gave a defense testimony.

However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the one-count accusation of murder in violation of Section 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

In Lagos' Tafa Balewa Square on Monday, the judge handed down his verdict and found the murderous cop guilty of the crime.

She decided that there was enough oral and written evidence linking the defendant to the offense from the prosecution.
