This comes after the party accused the KWSIEC of partisanship and passed a vote of no confidence in the commission.
At a news conference held in Ilorin yesterday, Babatunde Mohammed, the state chairman of the PDP, stated that the local government allocation should only be reinstated following the completion of the election of the third tier of government, which was put on hold in 2019, and the election of democratically elected officials to office.
He said that upon taking office again, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the president of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), fired the 16 elected council chairmen and installed Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) heads in their stead.
However, this was contested in court, with the High Court and Appeal Court each finding that the TIC administration was superfluous on their own.
"This action was in flagrant disobedience to courts' order," the courts declared.
In order to replace handpicked officials—whom the PDP referred to as stooges—with elected ones, the PDP wanted a legitimate electoral process.
"This move was blatantly against court orders prohibiting the governor from interfering with the financial affairs of duly elected council chairmen or suspending or dissolving them until the end of their legitimate terms.
Nearly two years have passed since the Court of Appeal's ruling and nearly three years have passed since the trial court's ruling that the governor disregarded.
"Our party views this as a flagrant insult to our judiciary and we demand that Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation, move swiftly to safeguard the integrity of the rule of law.
The PDP stated, "We demand that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation stop further LG allocation disbursements to Kwara State in this note."
Regarding the makeup of KWSIEC, PDP said: "A thorough examination of the board's organizational structure has revealed that the board is comprised primarily of members who have APC cards.
"The board chair made it clear in his opening remarks that he and his team are appreciative of the governor and will not let him down, as they were only appointed as political pay for their party roles," claimed Babatunde.
