A violent altercation between a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer and a driver in the Ago Palace area of Lagos resulted in the reported death of one individual and injuries sustained by others.
The occurrence took place on Tuesday morning when the operator of a Toyota Sienna purportedly attempted to evade capture subsequent to committing a breach of traffic regulations.
The official from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) stationed at Okota Roundabout was exerting effort to control the steering wheel while attempting to apprehend the driver for a traffic violation.
Regrettably, the driver experienced a loss of control, resulting in a collision between the car and a tricycle. This incident led to the fatality of the trike driver and caused injuries to the passengers.
According to reports, the occurrence resulted in a demonstration as an enraged crowd gathered around the LASTMA official.
The official's safety was preserved with the involvement of a group of law enforcement personnel, who utilized tear gas cannisters to disband the aggressive crowd and prevent the occurrence of a potential lynching.
The law enforcement officers proceeded to remove the barricade that had been erected on the road by the demonstrators, while simultaneously escorting the LASTMA official to safety.
