The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced its intention to initiate an inquiry into the tragic incident of electrocution resulting in the loss of four lives within the Dinyavo locality of Jalingo, Taraba State.
On Tuesday, the National Ethics and Research Committee (NERC) released a formal statement via X (previously known as Twitter), acknowledging its awareness of a distressing incident that reportedly transpired on Monday, October 2, 2023.
NERC expressed its deepest condolences to the family members and community impacted by this tragic loss. Furthermore, NERC assured the general public that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to determine the immediate and underlying circumstances contributing to this incident.
The entity has communicated that it has made contact with the distribution licensee, Yola Electricity Distribution Plc, which is accountable for providing electricity services in the specified region.
The accident is presently under investigation by the executive management of Yola Electricity Distribution Plc, as stated by NERC.
The NERC has established an Accident Investigation Team (AIT), which is presently en route to the accident site in order to carry out regulatory investigations.
According to NERC, it maintains its dedication to upholding public safety in the provision of services within the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), along with its policy of zero tolerance for accidents.
Furthermore, the organization has provided reassurance to the broader population that the issue would undergo thorough investigation and be addressed in compliance with established safety protocols and standards.
