NDLEA refutes a police assertion regarding an investigation into Mohbad's arrest and detention.
On Saturday, NDLEA refuted the police's assertion that it had ignored a request for information about the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad, after receiving it.

The NDLEA has not yet confirmed social media claims claiming that it had apprehended and imprisoned Mohbad on February 24, 2022, according to police in Lagos State, who said this at a news conference on Friday.

Additionally, according to the media reports, Mohbad was given something to drink while being held by the NDLEA.

Director of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, rejected an Abuja police accusation and said that the anti-drug organization has answered to police inquiries since September 28.

According to him, "to demonstrate the importance the NDLEA devoted to the police enquiry, its official response dated Thursday, September 28 was sent to Lagos by air; delivered, and received by the police same day.

"The gist of our reaction was that we also became aware of the unfounded claim on social media that Mohbad was held and arrested by the NDLEA on February 24, 2022, and that he was given something to drink.

In response to the allegation, we state categorically that Mohbad was neither arrested nor ever detained in the custody of the NDLEA on the said date or any other date before or after.

“The foregoing being the case, the issue of giving him any substance to drink does not arise.’’

Babafemi attached an acknowledged copy of NDLEA’s response to his press statement, showing that the police received it in Lagos on Sept 28.

Mohbad (27) died in controversial circumstances on Sept.12 and was buried on Sept. 13, but his corpse was exhumed on Sept 21 for autopsy.

Many fans and celebrities in some states took to the streets in protests following the singer’s death.

They demanded that justice be done as they suspected that there was more to Mohbad’s death than met the eye.

Police have since arrested Mohbad’s music promoter, Balogun Eletu, aka ‘Sam Larry’ and Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley; over multiple face-offs they had with Mohbad before the deceased parted ways with Marlian Records.

Musician, songwriter, and music marketer Naira Marley is the owner of Marlian Records.

In connection with Mohbad's killing, his close friend Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as "Primeboy," is being held by the police.
