Mustapha is appointed by Tinubu to lead the Energy Commission.
Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha has been appointed Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), with the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu expects the new ECN Chief Executive to have a positive impact on his administration's intensive push to diversify the country's energy sources in a coordinated manner across the government toward the goal of industrializing every part of the country with every citizen freed from the chains of energy poverty, according to a statement released on Monday by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Ajuri Ngelale.

Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha has substantial experience in the energy and space technology industries and has worked for more than ten years at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Most recently, he earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on renewable energy. He then held a post-doctoral fellowship as a research associate at the esteemed University of Manchester's School of Engineering.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) is tasked with the development of local capacity to identify, measure, and analyze pertinent parameters for performance monitoring of Nigeria's energy sector, as well as with promoting resource diversification and coordinating national policies in all their ramifications.

The commission was created to encourage the diversification of Nigeria's energy resources, and its work can help the country's sustainable economic, environmental, and social growth.
