Lagos reopens five marketplaces that had been shut down for environmental violations
The Lagos State Government has just authorized the reopening of five markets, including Ladipo, Oyingbo, Alamutu Ologede, and Ile Epo. These markets had previously been temporarily shuttered due to their involvement in a range of environmental violations.

The announcement regarding this matter was issued by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, through his official communication channel on Monday.

The offenses encompassed reckless garbage disposal, unsanitary premises, and failure to pay waste bills, among other transgressions.

As to Wahab's statement, the markets were reopened after complete adherence to the necessary requirements.

Nevertheless, he cautioned that any additional infractions will result in permanent termination.

On Sunday, the Commissioner joined Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in conducting an inspection of the flooded regions of Lagos Island, specifically Ojo Giwa, Princess, Oroyiyin, Idumagbo, and Pelewura districts.

Following the inspection, Sanwo-Olu issued a notice of eviction for a period of one week to individuals who have engaged in the building of shops and market stalls on the drainages, as well as those who have established unauthorized stores in various sections of the markets.

Furthermore, he directed the Ministry of the Environment to promptly provide the necessary notifications and initiate the removal of unauthorized structures.
