On Tuesday, the Lagos State Government issued a statement regarding the closure of the Alamutu market located in Idioro, Mushin. The decision to close the market was made in response to the unsatisfactory sanitary conditions seen within the premises.
The declaration was made by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources of Lagos State, in a statement released on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Wahab stated that under his instructions, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) took action to close down the Alamutu (Ologede) market located in Idioro, Mushin on the 3rd of October.
According to the speaker, the closure of the market was attributed to its inadequate hygienic conditions and ineffective waste disposal practices.
In the interim, there was an abundance of sorrow observed on Monday among dealers at the renowned Ladipo International auto spare parts market in Mushin, as they faced significant challenges in sustaining their livelihoods subsequent to the closing of the market four days prior.
On Friday, September 29th, Wahab issued an order for the closure of the market due to environmental infractions.
Wahab identifies several offenses, such as careless trash disposal, unsanitary premises, and non-payment of waste bills, among other transgressions.
According to his statement, the market will stay closed until the traders and market stakeholders fulfilled the statutory requirements required for reopening.
The Commissioner also stated that this initiative is a component of the continuous endeavors to ensure regulatory adherence in various markets within Lagos State.
