According to a statement released by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on its official social media platform, the agency emphasized that the presence of excessive noise presents a substantial risk to the serenity and welfare of local populations.
It has been asserted that assuming the role of responsible custodianship in the environment is of utmost importance for all individuals.
It is imperative to maintain sound levels within acceptable limits as a means of demonstrating care for our surrounding communities.
Collectively, we have the ability to derive satisfaction from our surroundings while minimizing disruptive behavior, thereby cultivating an atmosphere characterized by tranquility and serenity.
Furthermore, the agency cited a specific portion of the legislation pertaining to the issue of noise pollution.
According to Section 199, Sub-sections k, l, and m, the agency is granted the authority to establish regulations pertaining to various aspects related to noise. Sub-section k specifically addresses the establishment of noise standards for any product or category that emits noise capable of negatively impacting public health or welfare. Sub-section l focuses on noise standards for products or categories that are marketed, either entirely or partially, based on their ability to reduce noise.
Lastly, Sub-section m empowers the agency to create regulations concerning noise pollution standards in residential, religious, commercial, industrial, or any other premises. The objective of these regulations is to effectively manage the psychological and physiological effects of noise on humans, as well as the impacts of noise on domestic animals, wildlife, and property.
