Lagos announces a traffic detour while a truck barrier is installed at the Dorma Long Bridge.
In accordance with measures to prevent recurring incidents of articulated vehicle accidents resulting in loss of life and property on certain bridges in Lagos, the government of the state has declared a diversion of traffic during the evening of Saturday, October 7, 2023. This diversion is necessary to facilitate the installation of a truck barrier on the Dorma-Long Bridge, specifically between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Transport announced that vehicles will have access to the following alternative routes as part of the diversion plan.

Motorists originating from Western Avenue and traveling towards Ikorodu Road will be redirected to Empire Road/ Jibowu in order to proceed with their respective travels.

Motorists originating from Western Avenue have the option to utilize Agege Motor Road as an alternative route to connect with Mushin and continue towards their intended destinations.

Consequently, the state administration has advised motorists to exercise patience, since the temporary closure of the bridge is scheduled to occur during nighttime. This measure is being implemented as part of a traffic management strategy aimed at preventing additional accidents and loss of life.

The state government has seen the ongoing destruction of truck barriers and has consequently issued a warning that hereafter, any driver who collides with these barriers will be subject to legal consequences.
