Kidnappers Release Ondo Church Members Following Ransom Payment

Following the payment of a sizable ransom, the remaining worshipers from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke gan in Akure, Ondo State, who were kidnapped last Friday were released.

After a final ransom negotiation, iGONG learned that the worshippers were freed on Thursday evening at a location in the state.

Recall that eight out of the 25 hostages managed to flee the kidnappers' cave last Saturday, prompting the demand for a N50 million ransom to secure the release of the other 17.

The victims, the majority of whom are members of the church choir, were kidnapped while their route to a funeral on the notorious Elegbeka road in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of the state.

The remaining victims were taken to the church grounds late on Thursday night, a church insider revealed in a discussion.

After a ransom was paid, "the church's negotiation team returned with the remaining victims to the church premises in Akure at 11:47 pm," he claimed.

The victims' release was confirmed by Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisaya, the police public relations officer (PPRO) for Ondo.

According to Mrs. Odunlami-Omisanya, "They were released late yesterday (Thursday) evening."

She responded, "I can't confirm if a ransom was paid," when asked if the victims paid any ransom before being freed and returned to their families.

Later, the Ondo police image maker disclosed that efforts were being made to apprehend the kidnappers of the Christian worshipers.
