Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady, has announced that she will provide rural women with mechanized farm implements worth N151 million as assistance to lessen the difficulties of farming.

On behalf of the First Lady, the Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Ohaneye, said that the support will help rural women have less work to do, which will enable them to produce more farm goods.

The minister said this at a press conference held in Abuja to mark the 2023 International Day for Rural Women with the topic "Rural Women Confront the Global Cost of Living Crisis."

She claimed that in order to lower the price of rice, the ministry has also made preparations to give 26,000 tons of superior breed rice from China to rural women.

She claims that rural women will receive 26,000 tons of Chinese superior breed rice. To lower the price of rice, this rice will yield twice as much in three months.

Ohaneye urged women and other stakeholders to provide instruments to farmers, especially women farmers, to ease the load of labor because doing so will increase agricultural yields.

Idris Muhammed, the ministry of women affairs' acting permanent secretary, previously emphasized the importance of the international rural as a global initiative to highlight women at the grassroots and improve their means of subsistence, mostly agriculture, in order to alleviate poverty.

"Available evidence indicates that women play a crucial role in the rural economy around the world," he stated. They take part in crop production and animal care, as well as providing their families with food, water, and fuel. They also engage in various activities to diversify their families' sources of income. Rural women are active contributors to social, economic, and environmental change.

The two themes emphasize that the production and consumption of safe food and water have both immediate and long-term advantages for the people, the earth, and the economy, according to Muhammad, who also spoke on the topic of this year's World Food Day, "Water is Life, Water is Food; Leave No One Behind".

He continues, "The numerous clashes in Nigeria have also revealed the food system's susceptibility to significant shocks and the necessity for rural women to be economically empowered for self-determination."
