Imo governor: Concerns over 134, 000 uncollected PVCs from political parties and stakeholders

It is imperative to encourage the electorate to engage in active participation.

Various political parties and other relevant stakeholders in Imo State have issued a collective appeal to eligible voters inside the state, urging them to actively engage in the upcoming gubernatorial election. Furthermore, these entities have provided reassurances that the votes cast by individuals will be duly recognized and taken into account.

The individuals also emphasized the importance of registered voters who have not yet obtained their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to promptly retrieve them and utilize them to exercise their right to vote in the next election.

During a press conference held in Owerri, the individuals in question issued the statement in response to the recent announcement made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the existence of 134,000 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) inside the state.

The individuals made a commitment to oppose purported intentions to manipulate the election, urging the voting population to exercise caution and safeguard their ballots subsequent to casting them during the Election Day.

According to Salvator Amadi, the state Publicity Secretary of Action Alliance (AA), the reason for the uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is due to the perceived lack of impartiality displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is believed to be closely aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In order to promote the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) among voters, a comprehensive media-driven sensitization campaign is required. The improper conduct of INEC workers with regards to PVC collection include the illicit practice of soliciting funds from individuals prior to issuing the cards, under the pretext of procuring fuel for generators in the absence of electricity.
