Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, attended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum meeting in Abuja on Tuesday for the first time. At the meeting, decisions were made to help put an immediate end to the political unrest in Rivers State.
"The PDP Governors were alarmed at the recent developments in Rivers State and welcome the intervention of Mr. President to bring the crises to an end," according to a press release issued following the meeting, which was hosted by Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, in his Abuja office.
All stakeholders involved in the Rivers State crisis were asked to put down their weapons and pursue peaceful solutions during the meeting.
The Forum additionally extended its platform for a prompt and equitable containment of the related challenges.
The gathering acknowledged the Supreme Court's recent ruling regarding the 2023 presidential election and conveyed the opinion that it has put a stop to the presidential election cycle.
As a Forum, we believe and reaffirm our faith and confidence in the judiciary to do justice in political and other situations before the Courts," the communiqué continues.
"We are concerned that PDP candidates in Plateau State are being disqualified on the same grounds, despite the Supreme Court setting precedents on pre-election issues."
We want the highest court to make sure that our body of law is not misinterpreted. We continue to be aggressive in the fight for the nation's democracy and sound government.
At the conference, it was agreed to reposition and fortify PDP as a strong opposition political force that is prepared to take on the task of leading the Nigerian people in the fight for democracy, responsible leadership, and accountability.
Regarding the domestic economy, the meeting urged the Federal Government to act patriotically and intervene immediately to stabilize the Naira, manage inflation, end the jobless crisis, and provide greater support to Nigerians.
