Yesterday, the Niger State Government announced that it has paid the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) about N205 million in examination costs for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), which were owing by the previous administrations.

Aisha Wakaso, Special Advisor (SA) to the Governor on Print Media, dropped the hint during a dialogue with media at Government House in Minna.

Wakaso added that in order to clear up the backlog of SSCE fees owing by previous administrations, the government would begin paying N30 million per month to the National Examinations Council (NECO).

She stated, "I am happy to inform you that Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has kindly paid N205,016,005 outstanding debt to WAEC, and the applicants have been permitted to check their exam results.

She said that as a palliative measure to lessen the impact of the elimination of fuel subsidies, the government had acquired some Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for free student transit as well as at a discounted rate for federal personnel.

The state has stated that it intends to revitalize the National Geographic Information System (NIGIS) in order to bring it up to par with international best practices.

A component of the land register will be built to electronically issue land titles, making the procedure stress-free, according to Commissioner for Lands and Survey Maurice Magaji, who revealed this while speaking to journalists at the briefing.

According to Magaji, the ministry would work to process the backlog of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) applications that the previous administration left behind.

Hauwa Bako Mohammed, the governor's special adviser on social investment programs, added that the state administration would work nonstop to maintain the social investment initiatives started by the federal government.

She said that 50 young people from the region had spent three months in Abeokuta, Ogun State, receiving instruction from the MasterCard Foundation on soilless farming, cutting-edge greenhouse technology, hydroponics, and the seamless application of artificial intelligence to agriculture.

When the youngsters complete the training and return, according to Bako, there will be a step-down training for other adolescents in the state on skills in contemporary agricultural methods to promote the sector's sustainability and overall development.
