Former Niger leader will bring legal action against coup plotters
The legal representatives of the deposed president of Niger have announced their intention to initiate legal proceedings within the West African nation against the individuals responsible for orchestrating the coup d'état, which resulted in the removal of the democratically elected head of state.

The legal representatives of Mohamed Bazoum, who was deposed on July 26 and subsequently placed under arrest, have additionally expressed their intention to lodge an appeal with the United Nations Human Rights Council, as stated in their official communication.

The accusation, which was reviewed by AFP on Monday, is directed towards General Abdourahamane Tiani, the newly established authoritative figure, as well as other individuals involved.

The aforementioned statement pertains to a legal proceeding that asserts claims of assault and conspiracy against governmental authority, criminal acts and transgressions done by public officials, as well as unjustified detentions and incarcerations.

According to Dominique Inchauspe, one of the lawyers involved in the case, it is anticipated that the legal documentation would be submitted to a court in the capital city of Niamey within the upcoming days. This information was conveyed to the Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The legal representatives further expressed their intention to lodge an appeal with two entities of the United Nations Human Rights Council, namely the working group on arbitrary detention.

According to Inchauspe, the coup can be regarded as a violation of the dignity of the state of Niger, and he emphasized the imperative need to reinstate the principles of legal governance.

On September 18, President Bazoum initiated legal proceedings by submitting a case to the court of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as confirmed by his legal representative, Seydou Diagne, who is a lawyer from Senegal.

The individual in question has been confined to their place of abode subsequent to the occurrence of the coup.

The coup leaders announced on August 13 their intention to charge Bazoum with the offense of "high treason."
