Flights at Hamburg Airport are halted due to "threat of an attack on aircraft"

On Monday morning, October 9, flights were halted at Hamburg Airport in Germany after a threat of an assault was made against a jet departing from Tehran, the capital of Iran.

In response to a previous email threat, German police reportedly descended on the plane after it safely touched down at the international airport in the nation's north and performed a search.

At around 12:20 PM, the Iranian airliner, which was carrying 198 passengers and 16 crew members, touched down in Hamburg. Additionally, the airplane and its belongings were searched.

At 12.40 pm local time, the terminal stopped accepting takeoffs and landings, according to a spokeswoman. Police stated that they were treating the threat seriously but did not provide any other information.

Air traffic has since resumed at Hamburg Airport, according to airport officials.

The police operation occurs on the first day of a special conference between the governments of Germany and France in Hamburg, which is being attended by both Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Emmanuel Macron.
