Firefighters from Lagos are sent to the UK for training.
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has dispatched a contingent of firefighters to partake in a training program located in the United Kingdom (UK), with the aim of enhancing their professional skills and knowledge for application within their home jurisdiction.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ololade Agboola, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, attributed the accomplishment to the efforts of Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu's administration.

According to Agboola, the cohort of firefighters recently dispatched to the United Kingdom for training is expected to significantly enhance their skill set upon their return to Nigeria.

The spokesperson further stated that the training taking place in the United Kingdom is a continuation of efforts to enhance the structural capacity of the recently rebranded Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Agboola added that the current administration has implemented many initiatives to enhance the standing of the leading Fire and Rescue organization. These include giving Agency status, recruiting 535 personnel, and delivering five new Fire Stations and 62 Fire Apparatuses, among other measures.

In addition to the purposeful efforts being made in conjunction with the THEMES+ Agenda of the Governor, there is a focus on enhancing the skills and capabilities of the firefighters responsible for operating these commendable multi-billion naira facilities. This is aimed at ensuring optimal performance and maximizing the advantages for the residents of Lagos.

According to Agboola, on September 18, 2023, further members of the key State Agency commenced a training program in International Disaster Management at Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom. This follows a previous group who underwent the same course in 2022.

The team, under the leadership of Deputy Head of the Agency, Olajide Ogabi, had the opportunity to gain exposure to the most up-to-date and effective global practices in all aspects of disaster management, including planning, preparation, response, mitigation, recovery, and building resilience.

Ogabi, acting as a representative of the team, sent sincere gratitude to the government and expressed admiration for the Governor's unwavering commitment towards the Public Order and Safety sector, namely the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

According to the individual, they stated that this particular training opportunity, facilitated by Mr. 'Governor' Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, marks their first experience of overseas training in their career spanning over 31 years. The Director of the Service, Adeseye Margaret, welcomed them to her office.
