FCTA will close down unlawful automobile parks in Abuja due to the possibility of robbery.
Due to an increase in 'one-chance' robberies, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has threatened to close down unlicensed automobile parks in Abuja, the nation's capital.

This was revealed on Thursday during a conversation with journalists in the FCT Minister's office in Abuja, Nyesom Wike.

We're hearing a lot of reports of kidnappings here and there, according to Wike.

"We selected a number of places, one of which being the FCT's central location, with Niger State, Kogi State, Nasarawa State, and Kaduna State nearby. And if you look at these four states, you'll see that they occasionally encounter banditry and kidnapping.

"And we found that the majority of the places where they (criminals) reside are shanties and incomplete buildings, which is why we assert that we cannot permit these incomplete buildings where criminals have established their place of habitation. They will have nowhere to hide if you demolish all these incomplete structures that have devolved into shanties.

In order to combat the security threat known as one-chance robbery, Wike stated that the FCTA has established a joint task force on cross-border crimes.

He also cited unauthorized parking lots and unfinished structures used by criminals as dens as causes of the increased crime in the nation's capital.

"Once more, several unauthorized motor parks are visible. People will argue that the economy is tough and things are difficult but nobody wants to consider the security consequences when we introduce a policy that forbids these illicit vehicle parks.

According to the minister, the FCTA also has plans to evict some of the city's unlawful car parks.

Greatness Olorunfemi, a community developer and participant in the YALI network, is one of the most recent victims of the "one-chance" heist in Abuja.

According to reports, thieves who robbed Olorunfemi shoved her out of a moving car on the Maitama-Kubwa expressway. She later passed away at the Maitama General Hospital after allegedly being denied care for failing to provide a police report.
