Errant employees at NRC are suspended after being exposed in a viral video
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken disciplinary action against its employees who were observed in a widely circulated video engaging in negotiations with passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service without adhering to the requisite ticketing procedures.

The corporation made a commitment on Tuesday to take disciplinary action against employees who engage in behavior that undermines the reputation of the state-owned enterprise.

The NRC conveyed this warning on Tuesday through a formal statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) in response to a complaint filed by Daramola E. Adenike (@Dara4Enjoyment) on one of its officials.

On Wednesday, the administration of the National Research Council (NRC) took prompt action by suspending the staff members involved in the widely circulated video. This move was communicated through an official statement signed by the spokesperson, Yakub Mahmood.

In response to a widely circulated video on social media depicting Railway Staff engaging in negotiations with passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) to pay for their journey without obtaining official boarding tickets, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) strongly denounces such behavior. The NRC considers this conduct to be a clear violation of established regulations and a breach of trust placed in these employees, particularly during a period when the Federal Government is actively working towards revitalizing and modernizing the Corporation.

The aforementioned wrongdoing is deemed unfortunate and deemed unacceptable due to its contravention of the fundamental principles and standards upheld by the organization.

Consequently, the Corporation has promptly initiated the suspension of the aforementioned officials who have been found to be in violation, pending the conclusion of the comprehensive inquiry currently being conducted by the Management Committee specifically established to address this matter.

The passengers and general public can be guaranteed that the Corporation will not tolerate or take lightly any unwholesome behavior or negative reputation caused by its staff members.

Consequently, anyone implicated in this reckless behavior will be subject to disciplinary processes in accordance with the existing regulations, specifically referencing the pertinent portions of the NRC General Rules and Public Service Rules (PSR).

The NRC's management also took the opportunity to urge all prospective passengers on LITS and other train routes to request and obtain boarding tickets following the completion of necessary payments at the designated stations or through proper online booking methods.

Mahmood further emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the implementation of the electronic ticketing system, which will be accessible for utilization on both the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service and the Warri-Itakpe Train Service.
