Eno formally introduces 368 assistants
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, inaugurated the 368 Personal Assistants for each ward and charged them with using their positions as government ambassadors to promote the A.R.I.S.E. Agenda at the local level and to uphold peace and harmony in their respective communities.

In addition, he named three honorary special advisers to represent each of the three senatorial districts, along with Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh as his political adviser.

Eno stressed loyalty and sincerity while launching the Personal Assistants on Monday at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo. He also claimed that the need that they live in their community was a conscious move to help his administration understand the issue at the local level.

"Follow in my respectful steps toward everyone, and please attempt to bring the residents of your wards together. You are now the governor's personal assistants as a result of your appointment. Therefore, your only loyalty is to the governor," he continued.

He said that this would strengthen the planning and execution of the current administration's rural development programs, as outlined in the A.R.I.S.E. Agenda objectives, and would concentrate authority at the local level in keeping with the PDP slogan, "Power to the People."

"In keeping with our party's credo, we had pledged to give the people back the power, and by the people, we actually mean the people at the grassroots. That is what we are attempting.

"We mandated that everyone who was chosen reside in their wards. I also hope that this circumstance is accurate. But please be aware that we won't think twice about having you removed if we ever learn that you are not residing in your ward. We need individuals who can provide us with reports about the situation in their respective wards.

"So please note that the same way that we appointed you today, we will disappoint you because the hand that has appointed can also disappoint," the letter reads. "If you take this appointment and we later find out that you are in Uyo or you are not living within your own ward, please note that."

The governor also announced the establishment of a two-step liaison structure to interface between the 368 personal aides and his office, by appointing a political adviser and three honorary advisers from the three senatorial districts of the state, to ensure ease of coordination and orderliness in the structure of communication and work delivery.

The other individuals appointed were Dr. Henry Archibong for the Uyo Senatorial District, Bishop Sam Akpan for the Eket Senatorial District, and Sir Udo Kierian Akpan for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

"It would be incredibly challenging to have 368 people report to me. We're going to set up certain mechanisms to help energize you all and make it easier for us to collaborate.

He underlined that the appointments do not affect how the Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs performs its tasks.

The governor urged the new appointees to adopt a disposition of humility to mend fences, accommodate different interests, and show respect to leadership across levels while appealing to other qualified but not yet opportune stalwarts to be patient as other opportunities will keep unfolding in due course. The governor warned the new appointees against abusing office and displaying dishonest tendencies that are detrimental to the unity of the party and the society at large.

"I have also made an appeal to those who weren't chosen this time. Let's keep our mouths shut about it. Our progress is steady. I am aware that the Ministry of Internal Security and Water Ways is now seeking candidates for the Neighborhood Watcher program. These are all methods of ensuring that we establish peace in our areas, he said.
