CSU has until Monday to provide Tinubu's academic records, according to a US court
According to a recent ruling by the United States District Court in Northern Illinois, it has been mandated that Chicago State University (CSU) is required to disclose President Bola Tinubu's academic records to Nigerian opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar by Monday at noon.

The purpose of seeking the documents is to present them as evidence in Nigerian courts, with the intention of substantiating the claims made against Mr. Tinubu over the alleged forgery of a diploma certificate he purportedly acquired from CSU in 1979. These documents were subsequently filed to Nigeria's electoral commission in relation to the next presidential election in 2023.

Judge Nancy Maldonado, presiding over the court, disregarded the arguments raised by Mr. Tinubu and upheld the previous judgement made by magistrate judge Jeffery Gilbert. The presiding judge asserted that Atiku possessed the legal entitlement to obtain and review those records.

According to the court's decision, it was mandated that CSU is required to provide pertinent and non-confidential records by 12:00 p.m. (noon) CDT on Monday, October 2, 2023. Additionally, a deposition of CSU's designated representative, as per Rule 30(b)(6), must be concluded by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

Atiku Abubakar, having experienced an unfavorable outcome in his legal dispute against Mr. Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Court, expressed his intention to resurface the matter by incorporating evidence from the CSU in his forthcoming appeal to the Nigerian Supreme Court.

The court advised Mr. Tinubu against seeking a stay of the decision, as it indicated that such a request would be rejected due to the limited timeframe for submitting the necessary paperwork to Nigeria's Supreme Court. The sole recourse available to him in order to get a postponement of his execution was to submit an application to the United States Court of Appeals.

The court has issued an order mandating the release of four sets of documents pertaining to Mr. Tinubu by CSU. These documents include exemplars of a diploma that was issued to him in 1979, any exemplar diploma that corresponds to the alleged CSU diploma submitted by Mr. Tinubu, as well as CSU documents that have been certified and produced by Jamar Orr, an associate general counsel at CSU. Additionally, any related communications are to be included in the released documents.
