Court of Appeal fires Senator Abbo of the APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) senator Ishaku Abbo's election to the National Assembly as the representative for Adamawa North has been declared invalid by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The parliamentary election of February 25, 2023, had been won by Abbo, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Amos Yohanna, challenged the outcome in court.

The tribunal rejected Yohanna's plea for lack of merit in its ruling.

Yohanna traveled to the Appeal Court with the assistance of attorney Johnson Usman (SAN).

The Court of Appeal concurred with Usman that in accordance with Section 137 of the Electoral Act, 2022, the results tendered plainly demonstrated that there was no compliance with the Electoral Act after hearing arguments from the parties involved.

After subtracting the invalid votes from each party, the court determined that Yohanna and the PDP had received the majority of valid votes, which was enough to win the election.

The three-member panel's chief justice, C.E. Nwosu-Iheme, instructed INEC to provide Yohanna a Certificate of Return certifying her as a duly elected senator for the district.
