According to Elon Musk, X will have two new premium categories.
Elon Musk has announced the introduction of two new tiers of paid subscriptions for his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The billionaire stated in a post on X that "one is more expensive, but has no commercials, while the other is cheaper cost with full functionality, but no reduction in ads."

It happens at the same time that the company began charging new users $1 to access the platform in New Zealand and the Philippines.

More information on the plans was not provided by Mr. Musk.

According to the company's website, new users who choose not to subscribe will only be allowed to perform "read only" operations, such as reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts.

Mr. Musk has long claimed that charging for the service is the best way to get rid of bots and fraudulent accounts on the social media network.

Since taking over the company in October of last year, he has tried to entice customers to pay for an upgraded service, now dubbed X Premium, and to lure advertisers back to X with discounts.

Users can now choose to subscribe to the blue check service for $8 per month.

With its "Not A Bot" subscription option, it seeks to lessen spam, platform manipulation, and bot activity.

Advertisers have stopped running advertising on the service as a result of Mr. Musk's quick reforms, which include huge layoffs and the dissolution of content moderation staff.

He recognized that the platform's revenue has decreased and attributed this to activist pressure on advertisers.
