A conspiracy to overthrow the leader of the Rivers Assembly chamber and impeach the governorA new crisis has broken out in the Rivers State House of Assembly due to rumors that Sim Fubara, the state governor, is about to be impeached.

The House ousted Edison Ehie on Monday, a move that is commonly interpreted as a step toward the governor's impeachment. The dismissal of Ehie was approved by 24 Assembly members, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

In addition, as tear gas was shot outside the Assembly Complex, the governor stormed the building and House members ran for cover.

Speaking to his supporters at the Assembly Complex, Fubara claimed he had not committed any crimes that would have allowed the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach him.

"Permit them to reveal to the people of Rivers what crime I have committed that justifies my impeachment," Fubara declared.

In addition, the governor promised the people of the state that they would reap the benefits of democracy and promised to address the issue when it was opportune.

This happened only a few hours after the Assembly Complex caught fire on Sunday night.

It's unclear if the political controversy and the fire are related.
