Woman serving 18 months for cannabis theft is pardoned by the Adamawa jail committee
Ramatu Adamu, a female resident of Adamawa State, has been granted clemency by a committee specifically formed to alleviate prison overcrowding. Ms. Adamu had previously been convicted and sentenced to a term of 18 months for the act of theft, involving the misappropriation of a cooking vessel and a piece of cloth.

Ramatu, who was convicted for the offense of "theft in a dwelling house," was dismissed by the Adamawa Jail Delivery Committee on Thursday.

The defendant was found guilty on August 11th and subsequently received a sentence of eighteen months from the Chief Magistrate Court in Numan for the act of theft, specifically involving the misappropriation of a pot, wrapping, and cooler.

During her tenure, she was stationed at the Numan Security Custodial Centre when the committee conducted a visit to the prison.

During her appearance before the Committee chaired by Chief Judge Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, the individual in question acknowledged her culpability in relation to the offense for which she was found guilty.

According to her account, she indicated that she had departed from her residence in Shelleng and afterwards traveled to Numan to visit her sibling, during which she acquired the aforementioned items.

In response to her appeal, the Jail Recovery Committee granted her discharge, accompanied by a cautionary admonition regarding the commission of any future criminal activities.

In addition, the presiding judge presented her with a monetary donation of N10,000 to support the sustenance of her food vending enterprise.
