WAEC will implement CBT for WASSCE.
According to reports, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) intends to use the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode to administer its exams.

In an interview with NAN on Saturday, Mr. Patrick Areghan, the Head of National Office (HNO) for WAEC, provided a hint.

Areghan claimed that one of his goals for the council was implementing the CBT method of administration for some of its exams.

"With regard to the CBT exam, we have already begun. We have made significant progress with our strategy, and even in the sub-region, the registrar to the council is taking action, he said.

It's not as simple as some people think, he claimed.

"This is due to the question of how to conduct CBT for practicals and essay assignments that we ask ourselves.

"We can only do it easily when dealing with objective questions. But so many people won't be able to see it that way. They contend that because some other organizations are doing it, why can't WAEC?

"These days, no one even brings up energy; how many schools teach computer literacy? How many have access to computers and how many have enough electricity to power them?

"How do you tackle the issue of theory and practical papers even where you have all these things in place? These are the issues, so to speak, but that is what I want the council to accomplish as soon as possible, he continued.

He added that the council need to be able to administer CBT exams, even if that means starting with the purely academic ones.

He continued, saying that WAEC can have a segmented market and that those who cannot pay the CBT will use the paper-and-pencil method.
