The victim (names withheld) was brutalized by the two accused people and other people who are currently at large. They also caused serious physical harm to her, stripped her naked, and posted videos of her in that state on social media.
The alleged crimes were allegedly perpetrated on September 5 at around six in the morning in the Aduramigba Community on Afao Road in Ado Ekiti, and the accused are currently in court being tried on three counts by the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi.
The three charges brought against the accused persons—conspiracy to commit a felony, assault, and conduct likely to disturb the peace—violate and are punishable under Sections 421, 186, and 181 of the Criminal Law, Volume 1, Laws of Ekiti State 2021, respectively.
Mr. Adefolaju Ayobioloja, the defense attorney for the defendants, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his clients, referring to the first defendant as the neighborhood security guard and the second defendant as a secretary.
The defense attorney argued that the offenses qualified for bail and urged the judge to give them bail under lenient conditions.
The state has serious reservations that the accused people won't jump bail, according to state counsel Mrs. Shirley Atane, who opposed the bail application despite the fact that the crimes are punishable by bail.
She said that given the nature of the crimes and the number of people involved, granting bail would not help bring about justice because other alleged culprits are still at large.
Oluwasanmi's decision upheld the prosecution's argument and barred the accused from getting bail.
Because the Police had not yet delivered the case file, the trial could not begin.
The trial was then postponed until September 19 in order to continue.
Odunayo Ogunmola, the first lady's senior special assistant for media, said that the Gender Unit of her office has been activated to collaborate with the office of the attorney general to ensure that the victim receives justice.
