Two people are charged by the police for stealing cocoa beans worth N250,000.
Two men were charged by the Osun police on Friday in front of an Ile-Ife magistrate court with breaking into an apartment and stealing cocoa beans worth N250,000.

Felix Philip, 20, and Michael Julius, 20, are accused of conspiring, breaking into a building, and stealing on three counts.

However, they refuted the allegations made against them by the police.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Abdullahi Emmanuel, the accused committed the crimes on September 19, 2023, in the Ile-Ife hamlet of Mosarajo.

Emmanuel said that the defendants broke into Olajide Rotimi's home and took his 1.5 sacks of dried cocoa beans, which were worth N250,000.

He said that the offenses were against the Criminal Code Laws of Osun 2002 and were punished under Sections 390(9), 411, and 516.

The defendants were given bail in the amount of N50,000 by the magistrate, Kikelomo Adebayo, with one surety in the same amount.

Adebayo stated that in addition to providing proof of a three-year tax clearance certificate, the surety must swear an affidavit of means and reside within the court's jurisdiction.

She then put the case back until October 17.
