Tribunal dismisses APC and SDP petitions while upholding Oborevwori as the legitimately elected governor of Delta.
The Delta Governorship Election Tribunal, convened in Asaba, has upheld the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the legitimate governor of Delta state.

Subsequently, the aforementioned legal action initiated by Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, the gubernatorial nominee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), contesting the outcome of the electoral process held on March 18, was rejected by the court.

The tribunal, in its subsequent ruling, also rejected the case submitted by Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, who was the candidate for governorship representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP), challenging the election of Oborevwori.

The ruling rendered by a three-member panel of judges, with Justice C. H Ahuchaogu presiding, concluded that the petition presented by Omo-Agege lacked substantive validity and was consequently dismissed.

The tribunal rendered a decision in favor of Gov. Oborevwori, affirming his election. It determined that Omo-Agege was unable to sufficiently substantiate the claims made in his petition to the extent required by the standard of proof beyond reasonable doubt.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed in his petition that Oborevwori's election was not conducted in accordance with the majority of valid votes.

Additionally, he testified that the election proceedings were not in accordance with legal standards due to reported instances of corrupt acts.

In his case, Omo-Agege requested the tribunal to nullify the election of Oborevwori and invalidate the Certificate of Return that was issued to him.

The tribunal, however, determined that Omo-Agege was unable to provide sufficient evidence to support his claims.

The ruling determined that these claims are devoid of validity and are purely hypothetical.

The second verdict rendered by the tribunal resulted in the dismissal of the case lodged by Gbagi challenging the election of Gov. Oborevwori.

The court determined that the assertions presented in the petition were unable to be substantiated to the standard of proof required, therefore rendering them without validity.

In response to the decisions rendered, the governorship candidates from the APC and SDP parties have instructed their respective legal representatives to initiate the process of filing appeals.
