The Yobe State Police apprehended a man who is engaged in fraudulent activities, specifically targeting bank customers by engaging in the illicit practice of switching their ATM cards, thereby pilfering funds from their respective accounts.

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended an individual named Justice Gibson, who was sought after for engaging in fraudulent activities. Gibson's modus operandi involved the illicit practice of switching Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards belonging to bank customers, with the intention of deceiving and exploiting them financially. 

 

The statement, released on September 28, 2023, by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the command, revealed that the suspect engages in surreptitious activities within ATM galleries to unlawfully acquire cards from those who are unaware, afterwards utilizing them to withdraw funds from their accounts.

On 27 September 2023 at about 1300hrs the State Intelligent Bureau (SIB) arrested one Justice Gibson 28 years old, of Karim Lamido, Taraba State at the First Bank ATM gallery along Gashua Road, Damaturu in possession of various ATM Cards from different Banks used for swapping after defrauding unsuspecting victim at ATM points. He was apprehended while in an attempt to dispose of One Musti Kafa's ATM Card,” the statement read.

 

"The culprit confessed to defrauding people of their ATM Card at the ATM gallery by roaming around the gallery observing for any person who may have challenged using the ATM and volunteering to help, in the process he would get their PIN and eventually swap the Card and suddenly give reason to leave for another ATM leaving his victim with fake ATM Card and withdraw all the money in the account

 

“It is on this note, that the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmad, advised that people should be vigilant while at ATMs for such types of criminal elements. The Command is committed to fighting such crimes at ATM galleries across the state.
