The military intercepts N388 million in stolen crude oil and arrests 22 oil thieves.
According to the military high command, the troops deployed in the Niger Delta region successfully prevented the illegal extraction of crude oil amounting to N388,469,650.00. Additionally, they apprehended a total of 22 individuals who were suspected of engaging in oil theft.


On Thursday, September 28, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided this information during a press briefing in Abuja regarding the recent military operations conducted over the past week.


According to Edward, a significant number of dugout pits, boats, storage tanks, tapping hoses, drum receivers, cooking ovens, pumping equipment, outboard engines, and illicit refining sites were discovered and subsequently destroyed by troops in the Niger Delta. The military personnel successfully retrieved a total of 696,250 liters of unlawfully acquired crude oil, 54,400 liters of illegally processed automotive gas oil (AGO), and 1,200 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS).


In the interim, the Federal Government has made a commitment to provide assistance to the military in fulfilling its obligations as outlined in the constitution.  


The aforementioned statement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the convention of the cadets belonging to the 70 Regular Course at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) located in Kaduna State.


Shettima, represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, emphasized the significance of the academy as a crucial institution within Nigeria's defense and security framework.


The speaker urged the graduating individuals to uphold their constitutional duty of safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of applying the information obtained at the academy to support the current administration in achieving its Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of the population.
