The Kwara government takes action to detain environmental violators
Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, the Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, has stated that the ministry will soon begin making widespread arrests of environmental violators in the state.

The commissioner made this declaration on Wednesday while paying an official visit to Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the head of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, at his palace in Ilorin, the state's capital.

The commissioner claimed "that the visit to the Emir's palace was to seek the monarch's support to take the campaign to the grassroots" and revealed that fines would be associated with such arrests.

She reaffirmed the administration's commitment to ending the willful dumping of trash throughout the state, including in the city of Ilorin.

The purpose of the visit, which the commissioner described as "a royal assent to the war against indiscriminate dumping of refuse," was to ensure that the capital of Ilorin was completely free of this practice.

"Your Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, we are here to appreciate your unwavering support for the current administration and to seek your blessing on the mandate given to us by His Excellency on the eradication of indiscriminate dumping of waste in Ilorin metropolis," he said in his address.

Additionally, he said, "to support us in our advocacy work and to educate our people on the need to stop breaking environmental regulations like careless trash dumping on road medians, inside canals, and other illegal dumping locations.

The Commissioner emphasized that the government would soon "start making mass arrests of environmental offenders with a fine attached," and that is why he and his team were in the palace to ask the royal father for assistance in spreading the campaign for compliance to the general public.

In his remarks, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his admirable accomplishments in the state.

He claims that the multiple accomplishments Mallam AbdulRazaq has recorded over the past four years demonstrate that the current administration, led by him, has carried on the pledges it made during the electioneering campaign.

As a result, Alhaji SuluGambari gave the commissioner his unwavering commitment to ending the indiscriminate dumping of trash in the city of Ilorin.

The Emir prayed for the effort to avoid indiscriminate dumping to be effective in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment for healthy living in the state.
