According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Acting State Publicity Secretary, Mazi Emenike Nmeregini, the opposition party asserted that the two legislators emerged victorious with overwhelming margins in the National Assembly elections held on February 25.
The PDP expressed their perspective on the decisions as a setback and expressed their determination to challenge and reverse them through the legal process at the Court of Appeal.
The lmo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party expressed profound reservations and disapproval upon learning about the annulment of the elections of Rt Hon. Barr. Ikenga lmo Ugochinyere lkeagwuonu (representing Ideato North and South) and Rt Hon Jonas Okeke (Okigwe South) by the lmo State Election Petition Tribunal, which convened in Mararaba, Nasarawa state. The Tribunal's ruling in these situations is subject to strong condemnation and sadness.
The two proactive legislators emerged victorious by a wide margin in the National Assembly election held on February 25, 2023. They secured seats in the House of Representatives, representing their respective constituencies within the state.
As a politically accountable and adaptable party, the decision rendered by the Tribunal is somewhat astonishing, given the abundance of compelling evidence in the form of factual information and numerical data presented to substantiate the election outcomes. The ultimate rulings made by the knowledgeable justices are likely to result in dissatisfaction among the voting population in the constituencies.
Regrettably, the honorable Tribunal based their conclusions on pre-election matters that had previously been dismissed by courts of competent jurisdiction, without considering the benefit of hindsight.
This argument fails to acknowledge that the issue at hand pertains solely to internal party activities, hence limiting its discussion to members of the lmo PDP rather than non-PDP members. The verdicts, in all appearances, appear to be veiled in blatant deception and enigma.
The Lmo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party perceives the individual judgments as a hindrance to the integrity of our nation's judiciary. Additionally, it vehemently opposes the entirety of these absurd displays of primitiveness. The party unequivocally opposes the position of the Tribunal and will persist in doing so until the judgment is reversed, as it has the potential to perpetuate challenges within our legal jurisprudence.
The judiciary is held in high regard and is trusted to take appropriate action to restore the perceived decline in the reputation of the nation's judicial system.
The party anticipates that the Appeal court will take appropriate action in the near future. Consequently, our party urges our dissatisfied members and voters in the ldeato North/South and Okigwe South Federal Constituencies to remain composed, as we anticipate that justice will be served expeditiously in these particular cases.
