The DSS creates the Directorate of Public Relations and appoints Peter Afunanya as its head
A new Directorate of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, or DPRSC, has been created by the Department of State Services, or DSS.


The department was founded by DSS Director General Yusuf Bichi as part of initiatives to strengthen democratic governance, openness, and accountability while also maintaining contact with Nigerians.


According to a DSS DPRSC statement, Peter Afunanya, the secret police spokesperson, was nominated by Bichi to lead the Directorate.


The notification states that Afunanya's appointment becomes effective on September 26, 2023.


In order to oversee the Directorate and be in charge of the Service's public communications, Peter Nnochirionye Afunanya, Ph.D., fsi, the former Public Relations Officer, was appointed.


"The appointment became official on September 26, 2023.


"The Service has commended its Director General, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi CFR, fwc, for the initiative to undertake the expansion and particularly appointing Afunanya to pilot the Directorate," the statement read.
