PDP triumphs after 100 days in office as Otti earns praise in Abia
During the initial 100 days of his tenure, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State achieved notable progress across all sectors.

Upon assuming office, the previous Managing Director of the now defunct Diamond Bank PLC promptly proclaimed a state of emergency about garbage disposal, inadequate road infrastructure, and security concerns within the region. This declaration occurred subsequent to the individual's inauguration on May 29.

The commencement of the construction of nine roads in Aba was initiated by the governor, with five of them having been successfully finished and are now prepared for official inauguration.

The roads that have been constructed in the Ukwa West Local Government Area by the Abia State Oil Producing Communities Development Commission (ASOPADEC) include Umuimo road, Emelogu road, Jubilee road, Cemetery road, Shalom road, and Obehie road.

The Agbama Housing Estate in Umuahia, the capital of the state, is currently undergoing road rehabilitation.

In accordance with the governor's proposed initiative to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the state capital, a total of 160 buildings are scheduled for demolition along the stretch from Ossah Junction to Okpara Square. This demolition is intended to create space for the construction of a 6-lane road. Currently, efforts are underway to establish the mechanisms by which compensation can be disbursed to those who own property.

In the field of trash management, the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), under the leadership of Otti, has procured and positioned more than 100 waste containers in important locations in Umuahia and Aba. This initiative aims to facilitate the collection and removal of refuse in a more efficient manner.

The healthcare sector has witnessed the rehabilitation of three hospitals inside the state under the Otti government. Medical practitioners have also been recruited and assigned to healthcare facilities.

The hospitals encompassed within the region are Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre located in Umuahia, as well as Ugwunagbo General Hospital and Obehie General Hospital.

The governor has also initiated a collaborative security initiative called Operation Crush, aimed at addressing the prevalence of criminal activities within the state.

The administration led by Otti has made contributions of 20 Toyota Hilux vans to various security services inside the state, such as the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and others.

The administration led by Otti of the Labour Party is now implementing the installation of solar-powered lamps in prominent streets inside Umuahia and Aba. This initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of these cities while also providing support to security forces in their nocturnal crime prevention efforts.

Similarly, Otti has been fulfilling his initial commitment by ensuring that the salaries of civil officials in Abia State are disbursed on or prior to the 28th day of each month.

In addition to the aforementioned accomplishments, the individual in question has successfully resolved the unpaid wage arrears for the months of April and May, which were previously outstanding during the tenure of the former administration led by Okezie Ikpeazu.

Nevertheless, a significant number of employees who have not been effectively accounted for in the ongoing verification process have yet to get their remuneration.

According to the Accountant General, Mrs. Njum Onyemenam, the verification exercise undertaken by Otti's administration has resulted in the identification of 2,300 fictitious employees, resulting in a cost reduction of N220 million from the state's payroll.

The governor has established a Probe Panel, led by Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe (Rtd), with the aim of retrieving all public cash and assets that have been purportedly embezzled or misused by officials of the Okezie Ikpeazu administration.

Nevertheless, the first 100 days in office have been accompanied by a consistent stream of complaints from the primary opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), directed towards Otti and his governing administration.

The PDP, known for its consistent criticism of the governor's actions, contends that his accomplishments are lacking in merit and not deserving of praise.

According to the vice chairman of the Abia State chapter of the PDP, Abraham Amah, it has been asserted that Otti has dictatorial tendencies in his approach to governing the state.

Based on the PDP's perspective, the majority of the governor's activities are not primarily aimed at promoting the progress of the state, but rather appear to be motivated by a desire to target former governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his government employees.

The opposition party has raised concerns regarding the actions undertaken by Otti. These actions encompass the establishment of a probe panel to examine Ikpeazu's eight-year tenure as governor, the suspension of permanent secretaries, and the termination of employment for civil servants hired during the previous administration from December 2022 to April 2023.

The PDP has made allegations that Otti has been appropriating credit for certain initiatives carried out by the previous administration, such as the repair and rebuilding of the A-Line part of Ariaria International Market in Aba, without acknowledging the contributions of Ikpeazu.
