Osun NLC strike records a mixed level of compliance
The commencement of the statewide warning strike planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has resulted in the abandonment of streets and businesses in several regions of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

It was observed by INFOGONG that the proprietors refrained from commencing their commercial operations for the day, while the inhabitants remained indoors.

Nevertheless, it was noted that traders and commercial transporters in Owode-Ede market, located on the outskirts of Osogbo, were engaged in their routine trading activity.

Commercial minibuses, commonly referred to as Korope, were observed in operation, transporting passengers to their respective destinations.

At the present juncture, the state public officials were uncertain regarding their attendance at work.

According to Bolanle Bamitale, a civil servant who provided insights to INFOGONG, she expressed skepticism on the strike

The informant disclosed that the labor union in the region had remained silent regarding the progress.

I am now situated within an enclosed space. I am uncertain as to whether I should engage in outdoor activities or remain indoors. The individual mentioned that they have contacted multiple coworkers, who also expressed uncertainty on the occurrence of a strike.

Nevertheless, a merchant named Tope Abdulgafar expressed her intention to commence operations at her shop, as she did not belong to the labor force.

I am going to commence the operation of my shop at this moment. I do not have any involvement in the strike. I do not affiliate with the labor movement. According to her, in order to ensure her survival, it is imperative for her to operate her business on a daily basis.

It was noted by INGOGONG that the main gate of the Osun State Government Secretariat, located in Abere, was seen to be open.

According to Adekola Adebowale, the Chairman of the Osun chapter of the Association of government Servants of Nigeria, the government servants in the state are refraining from participating in the ongoing strike.

According to his statement, "There is no strike." There is currently no evidence of any strike being observed. At the present moment, I am situated at the Osun State Secretariat, Abere, while engaging in this conversation.

All of the offices are currently accessible and operational. Individuals are present and engaged in their respective tasks, and all systems and processes are functioning effectively.

Adebowale attributed the lack of attendance by the majority of civil officials to a miscommunication resulting from a deficit in information dissemination.

The dissemination of information was insufficient. The individual expressed confidence that the location will regain its full occupancy within a few hours.

The commercial banks in Osogbo were non-operational due to a directive by the National Union of Banks, Insurance, and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE). The union's statement announced the closure of all banks on September 5th and 6th, 2023.

As to the statement issued by the union, it intends to align itself with the NLC in order to demonstrate against the repercussions resulting from the elimination of fuel subsidies inside the nation.
