On Thursday, the Joint Task Force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) proceeded to dismantle a total of 470 motorcycles that had been confiscated for engaging in unauthorized operations within the capital city of Abuja.
The taskforce seized the motorcycles as part of an operation that commenced at the Carwash Bus Stop, Lugbe, and extended through Gosa, Bill Clinton Drive, Trademore Estate, Lugbe Junction, and Kubwa.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a total of 400 motorcycles were confiscated and subsequently destroyed on August 31st as part of a comparable enforcement action targeting the same violation.
During the exercise, Mr. Obokutom Nyah, Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), informed journalists that the decision to destroy the motorcycles was in accordance with the legal rules.
Nyah issued a cautionary statement to commercial motorcyclists, urging them to confine their activities only to specified zones, refrain from entering the city center, and cease posing a security risk within the urban region.
The speaker provided an explanation regarding the allocation of certain zones for various types of vehicles, further noting that commercial motorbikes are exclusively permitted to operate within suburban areas.

According to Bello, the taskforce intends to expand its operations to include nighttime hours. He also stated that the current weekly rate of motorbike impoundment ranges between 200 to 400 units.
The individual further stated that the taskforce is contemplating the apprehension of those who utilize motorcycles as a means of transportation, as a measure to enhance the efficacy of enforcement.
He recommended that residents refrain from using motorcycles and instead consider walking short distances wherever feasible, in order to prioritize their personal safety.
