Officer fired by Rivers police after shooting a father of three
A police officer who fatally shot Alafuro Peterside in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been fired by the Nigerian Police Force.

Last month, a police officer shot and killed 42-year-old Peterside in Elekohia, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, of Rivers State in front of his wife and kids.

Nwonyi Emeka, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, made the announcement as he paraded criminal suspects Tuesday at the command's headquarters in Port Harcourt's Moscow Road.

The cop has been charged in court, according to CP Emeka, in the interest of justice.

Additionally, according to iGONG, the CP identified seven police officers who engaged in improper behavior after one of them was cheated of some money.

In recent times, we have seen some bloggers, Tiktokers, and Tweeters post some hostile statements against the directive, the CP stated.

"Some are unfounded, but I want to reassure you that we will address the issues with the ones that are.

"Standing here are police officers who have lately been accused by a Tiktoker video that went viral of acting in an unprofessional manner.

"And to demonstrate to you that crime and criminality know no borders, as I've always maintained. If you commit a crime, you will be penalized regardless of whether you are a civilian or a police officer.

"In addition to reassuring you that we police officers would always stand up for what is right, I've said this to that effect. We will try our utmost to do you justice, regardless of who comes to make a report.

"Investigations into the allegations made against them are ongoing. Since the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, and the AIG have never sent anyone, we are not prepared to cover anyone.

"Therefore, rest confident that you will face the wrath of the law if you get your feelings hurt by acting in a way that goes against what is required of you as a police officer.

"You can't act too sanctimoniously to demonstrate that you can hold people accountable as a law enforcement official, and you can't demonstrate it with your own actions.

Before we can impose discipline on others, we must go above and beyond the norm.

He mentioned that the police officers had been held in custody ever since they were taken into custody. The required disciplinary action would be taken against them after the investigation is finished, he added.

In order to avoid damaging the Nigeria Police's reputation due to the conduct of "a few bad eggs," the CP recommended victims of police extortion and violence to report to his office instead of going online.
