Niger: The commissioner issues a warning against the misuse of palliatives
Alh. Muazu Hamidu Jantabo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Niger State, has issued a cautionary message to individuals responsible for the allocation of relief supplies. The purpose of this warning is to emphasize the importance of conducting a peaceful, impartial, and just distribution process, free from any conflicts or disputes, throughout all 25 local government areas within the state.


During the commencement of the distribution exercise at the Lapai council secretariat in the Lapai region of the state, Jantabo issued a cautionary statement.


According to the statement, the standing committee responsible for distribution has implemented procedures in accordance with Governor Muhammad Umar Bago's direction. These measures aim to promote transparency and inclusivity, while avoiding any kind of discord or animosity.


The speaker expressed their intention to emphasize the implementation of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago's instructions, which aim to promote transparency and fair allocation of various food commodities, including rice, beans, garri, and others.


The commissioner, meanwhile, elucidated that particular attention will be accorded to two electoral districts out of a total of ten, renowned for their diverse population and situated in townships. These districts, namely Gabas-Kudu and Arewa-Yamma, have been mutually agreed upon by the committee.


Furthermore, the individual further revealed that the political appointees within the 10 wards of the council had reached a consensus and collectively provided a total amount of N1,518,000 to cover logistical expenses. It was also mentioned that all security agencies operating within the region received their respective portions of the relief supplies.


According to Jantabo, there remained a residual value of N798,000 from the overall purchase of commodities intended for distribution. Additionally, the logistical expenses associated with the distribution were projected to amount to N2,316,000, resulting in a remaining balance of N1,518,000.


The chairman of Lapai Local Government, Mohammed Musa Kirikpo, emphasized the importance of fairness and equity in the distribution of palliative measures within their respective districts, during a recent discussion.
