Niger Assembly takes action to combat the distribution of bogus pharmaceuticals
The Niger State House of Assembly has started the process of enacting suitable legislation to address the sale and spread of counterfeit medications in the state's markets.

In order to commemorate World Pharmacists Day in Minna on Monday, the Speaker, Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, led members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) on a 4.5km road walk. He then revealed this.

The House will make every effort to reduce the prevalence of phony and inferior pharmaceuticals, he said, adding that it requires immediate attention.

He declared, "These issues of bogus drugs and drug usage in the state will soon be a thing of the past. As you are aware, the 10th Assembly includes a licensed pharmacist.

"We are working to pass the necessary laws to address these issues. I can guarantee the populace that we will begin taking action and adopting legislation to stop this threat in no time at all.

The Speaker also stated that the lawmakers will keep collaborating with the Nigerian Pharmacists Society in the fight against bogus pharmaceuticals.

He also urged the state's pharmacists to uphold their profession's ethics for the good of the populace.

Yakubu Maji Isah, a pharmacist and the chairman of the PSN in Niger State, advised locals to cease self-medicating.

The Speaker urged the citizens to cease supporting street vendors and sellers of phony drugs while stressing the PSN's willingness to work with the parliamentarians to end the issue.
