According to a report by iGONG, the reason for their appearance was in reaction to the inquiry made by the Lagos Assembly on the absence of Yoruba language in announcements made for regulated public transport services.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture were additionally called upon.
Present during the committee hearing were Mr. Oluwaseyi Osiyemi, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, and Mr. Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
Both Osiyemi and Aregbe commended the assembly for prioritizing the revival of the Yoruba language and expressed their commitment to adhere to the legislation.
In the meantime, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. David Setonji, accompanied by the Deputy Majority Leader in the House, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, acknowledged that the summons was issued in order to ensure compliance with existing legislation on the utilization of the Yoruba language in transactions inside the state.
According to Setonji, it was observed that LAMATA promptly adhered to the instruction of the House. However, there remains a need for ministries and agencies to respect the law.
